Unique, mid century, insulator, paperweight designed by Italian artist, Piero Fornasetti in the 1950's.
Fornasetti applied ceramic decals to porcelain, electrical, insulators to create original paperweights. This design shows the official alphabet used by NATO in red. There is a gilt, gold band around the center groove as well as around the top of the insulator crown. Between these bands around the crown are the words, "For Your Telephone Messages...", also in red. The top of the crown has a compass star with the letters, "N, A, T, O". Inside is marked, "Fornasetti Milano, Made in Italy" with an image of a hand holding a paintbrush.
Measures approximately 3-1/2" tall x 2-1/2" across the bottom and 2" across the top
This interesting piece is in good, previously owned, vintage condition with a few very minor scratches and scuffs. There is minor paint wear to the gold gilt bands as seen in above pictures. There are a few tiny spots of paint wear on a couple of the letters, but all letters and words are legible and in good condition. The threads on the inside of the insulator have a few tiny cracks that do not go all the way through, as seen in photograph. No other cracks, chips or breaks noted.
Beautiful, rare, collectible piece of art from Italy!
