This unique and beautiful metal sculpture of the Tree of Life is made and signed by Haitian artist Jhonson Augustin.
Made from recycled, 55 gallon, oil drum, Haitian artists clean the inside of steel drum barrels by burning dried banana or sugar cane leaves. They then remove the ends of the barrel and flatten it by pounding it flat. Primitive tools, chisels and hammers are used to create intricate patterns in the metal.
Measures approximately 17-1/4" wide x 17-1/4" tall and is about 1/2" from wall when hanging.
Sculpture is in good condition overall with some minor spots of surface rust in a few areas, as seen in above pictures. No major structural damage, rust, cracks or breaks noted. Flaws and imperfections as expected with any handmade item.
