This is an authentic, 1920's, wall mounted, brass and iron wire basket, from a Pullman train car. These were originally installed in Pullman train car bathrooms to hold soiled towels. Please see pictures above to see 2 examples. The last picture is from J.P. Morgan's private, 1925 Pullman car bathroom.
The main frame of the basket is made of brass with vertical, iron rungs. It looks like they were originally painted. Marked "S/R" on the bottom center of the frame.
The basket measures approximately 12" wide x 12" tall, and projects 5-1/2" from the wall.
Basket is in good condition overall with no major structural damage. There is some rust to the iron rungs and the frame has some peeling and chipping paint that give the piece great, rustic patina. You could leave it as is, or repaint if desired.
This is a hard to find, original Pullman train piece, that would surely be a nice addition to any collection of railroad memorabilia. It would be perfect for flowers, or mount it in your entryway, and fill it with doll heads!
