Antique Cast Iron Arch Top Window Crate, Forged Architectural Salvage

Sorry, this item has sold.

This is a fantastic late 1800's, Cast Iron Arch Top, Hinged Window Grate, with the bars in a diamond pattern. These old grates were used in the early days, in basement foundation walls, to allow air into the dirt cellars. Years later, homes were built with windows in the foundation, instead of the grates. This is a great, original piece of architectural salvage. The possibilities for this original piece are endless!

The overall measurements of the outer frame are approx. 24" wide x (not including the pointy extensions that extend into the wall) x 17" tall. The measurement of the hinged door opening is 19" wide x 11" tall. Weight is 40 lbs.

Grate is in good solid condition, with normal surface rust, dirt, and patina. There are no breaks, cracks, or other structural damage. Hinged door great opens and closes as it should.
