This is an 1890's, Forged Iron Foundation "Window" Grate, with a diamond pattern design. These old grates were used in the early days, for openings in the basement foundation, to allow air into the dirt cellars. This is an original, historical piece of architectural salvage, rescued from a barn in eastern Pennsylvania.
The grate measures approx. 15" wide x 8-1/4" tall. The thickness of the cross hatch section of cast iron is 5/8". Weight is approx. 8 1/2 LBS.
Grate is in good solid condition, with normal surface rust, dirt, and patina. There are no breaks, cracks, or other structural damage.
